Preparation technology of high purity neon gas (1)
"High purity neon" means a purity of not less than 99.999%, i.e. an impurity content of less than 10x10-6 (volume fraction).
The total amount of impurities in industrially supplied gases is generally less than 100x10-6 (volume fraction). Therefore, in order to obtain high-purity neon, industrial pure neon must be further purified to remove impurities below 10x10-6 (volume fraction). In addition to helium, the main impurities of industrial pure neon generally contain trace nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, water, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons and other impurities, which can be removed by the following methods.
1). Nitrogen removal.
The removal of nitrogen, sometimes accompanied by the removal of oxygen, is mainly absorbed by a metal getter. The commonly used metal getter is calcium, titanium, uranium and zirconium - aluminum -16, etc. When the metal calcium is used as the aspirant, nitrogen and oxygen are absorbed at the same time, the reaction temperature is 650~680 degrees, the impurity concentration of the inlet gas is equivalent to 40x10-6 (volume fraction) air, and the impurity at the outlet is less than 50x10-6 (volume fraction) [it can be reduced to 20x10-6 volume fraction when fresh calcium is used]. The utilization rate of metal calcium is 50%~60%. The spongy metal titanium or zirconium-aluminum-16 is used as getter to absorb oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, water vapor, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons.

2). Removal of oxygen.
The removal of oxygen is usually done by chemical method. Commonly used deoxidizer manganese oxide or Ag-X molecular sieve. The manganese oxide deoxidizing agent absorbs oxygen, and the total reaction formula is: 6MnO+3O2→6MnO2 at the reaction temperature of 150 degrees and the space velocity of 1000h-1, the oxygen with a volume fraction of 0.1% can be removed to 2x10-6. Ag-X molecular sieve was used to deoxidize at room temperature. The impurity oxygen content can be reduced from 44x10-6 to 3x10-6. Manganese oxide and Ag-X molecular sieve deoxidizer after the use of hydrogen reduction, reduction of deoxidizer can be reused.
