Helium holds the advantage of nuclear fuel

Bottled helium is used to hold nuclear fuel

Although the use of nuclear energy has the risk of nuclear pollution, but because of the high efficiency of nuclear energy, there are still many countries to build nuclear power stations. The preservation of nuclear fuel is crucial in several key stages of nuclear power plant operation. The fuel is useless once it has been used up, but because it is so radioactive, its haphazard release poses more than a brief threat by releasing another form of "nuclear bomb" into an unsuspecting world. And helium helps to preserve nuclear fuel and helium has a lot of advantages in preserving nuclear fuel!

Helium is used as fuel for aircraft

Why do scientists use helium to preserve nuclear fuel? There are several reasons for this:

1. Helium holds nuclear fuel to ensure fuel integrity. Helium is an inert gas with high stability and no reactivity. The filling of helium in the sealed steel cylinder can ensure the long-term integrity of the spent nuclear fuel sheath.

2. Helium preserves nuclear fuel to prevent oxidation and corrosion. The sealing steel cylinder must be vacuum dried before filling helium gas, and the water and air in the sealing steel cylinder should be removed, which can effectively prevent the deterioration of the fuel sheath material caused by oxidation and corrosion.

3. The sealing steel cylinder is filled with more than 99.9% high purity helium to one atmospheric pressure. After double sealing welding, the helium leakage in the sealing steel cylinder can be prevented, and the outside air can be blocked from entering the sealing steel cylinder.
