Application and protection of argon gas

Argon gas is a rare gas widely used in industry at present. It is very inert in nature and neither burns nor supports combustion. In aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding, atomic energy industry and mechanical industry, argon is often used as welding protection gas for special metals, such as aluminum, magnesium, copper and its alloys and stainless steel, to prevent the welding parts from being oxidized or nitriding by air.

High purity argon is mainly used in welding, stainless steel manufacturing, smelting, also used in the semiconductor manufacturing process of chemical vapor deposition, crystal growth, thermal oxidation, epitaxy, diffusion, polycrystalline silicon, tungsten, ion implantation, current carrying, sintering and other argon as a single crystal and polycrystalline silicon production of protective gas.

Toxicity and safety protection of argon gas

Argon itself is non-toxic but has a choking effect at high concentrations. There is a risk of suffocation when the concentration of oxygen in the air is higher than 33%, which is less than two-thirds lower than normal. Severe symptoms occur when oxygen concentrations exceed 50%, and death can occur within minutes at concentrations above 75%.

Symptoms of asphyxia include, initially, rapid breathing, loss of attention, muscle movement disorders, subsequent loss of judgment, loss of all senses, mood swings, general fatigue, nausea, vomiting, weakness, loss of consciousness, lethargy, and death. Liquid argon splashing into the eye can cause inflammation, and touching the skin can cause frostbite. Argon can be stored in glass or steel cylinders. In the process of storage and transportation, light load and light discharge, strictly prevent collision damage, prevent high temperature. Argon gas is not corrosive, at room temperature can be used carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, copper alloy, and other general metal materials and general plastic materials and elastic materials. Polymerization of polytetrafluoroethylene and polytrifluoroethylene chloride is commonly used for gaskets and diaphragms at low temperatures.
